Introduction to paper
Understand
Lecture:
This week was the introduction to the paper, in our lecture we looked at the concepts of ihi and wehi. The concepts are associated with how a piece of work makes you feel and how you understand the work.
Wehi is more the emotional response to a work, and the ihi is the how the designer has achieved this, that is how they have used visual rhetoric to communicate an idea.
Rhetoric is the art of persuasion in pursuit of a desired outcome. It provides the theoretical basis for the communication theory we use in any situation that involves influencing someone to do something that they may initially resist or disregard.
Pathos – an appeal to the emotions, which might make you laugh, cry or recoil in horror.
Logos – a persuasive argument that you accept for its logical conclusions
Ethos – a means of convincing someone by the character or credibility of the persuader
Class:
During class on monday had sets of images that we were discussing the ihi and wehi of. We had questions to answer regarding the images:
Lecture 2:
We then went to the museum building for guest speakers. During the speakers they really got us thinking about what inequality in NZ looks like, it was good to have the speakers because it gave us some ideas about what different areas there are to look at.
