Week One, Thursday 20th July
CITIZEN DESIGNER
Understand, define
Lecture: In the lecture we looked at the designer being a voice for change. We look at several different examples of this. One that I found interesting was the John Heartfield example of "Adolf the Superman", I had previously been looking into him while looking at the dadaists and their use of symbolism and juxtaposition to create meaning.
During the lecture we looked at posters that deal with human rights and one of the examples was the Barbara Kruger poster. In seeing this I was instantly reminded of the Linder Sterling piece at the bottom, I think because of the contrast of colours - the composition and the black and white women.
During class we played pictionary with the table. It was a good exercise because it honed the quick word/image associations - whilst under a time pressure.
