Week 6, Monday

Today in class we had one on ones with caroline and fay. I got further feedback on my posters. Fay really didnt think the blue one communicated the issue at all so ive gone back again to revisit the original blue boy sitting on the tires.


Fay said it looked like the "the cover of a 1948 book on interior design" so.... its a no for this concept..

On the plus side I like the colour palette. And it was good to see poster designs by Alvin Lustig for future reference.

This is a mock-up i made during class today after the fail above and im super pleased with it. Its simple yet envokes pretty strong pathos. Using the relationship between my tagline and the usually happy drawing from a child. I think the juxtaposition between them is effective yet simple...

So today I worked on a few different iterations and will finalise one by printing tomorrow.

08.09.17 making further poster designs today. these are two that im happy with. still happy with the "housing crisis annual" one from initial feedback session - just have to think about if im happy with doing the illustration side of things or if it will be too time consuming. In class we went through an exercise looking at different uses of the head image and the heart image. I did find this helpful as it showed that you dont always have to be so straight forward with iconography. Ive also started thinking about the text/image relationship. I think some stronger concepts that I liked before the initial feedback session were the ones that said "home sweet home" - perhaps look into that further.

Week 3: Monday - Interim Presentation

31.07.17 INTERIM PRESENTATION Critique Today was our interim presentation, I presented the 4 concepts that I thought represented my issue best.  In my feedback it appears people could see the issue I was dealing with which was good. I got some helpful suggestions about how to further develop my concepts. This session was very helpful, from here I can identify which concept to develop further and which maybe arnt as strong.

Week One, Independent study

HOUSING CRISIS Understand, define, ideate After sessions in class and brainstorming there was an abundance of potential ideas. The topic for my inquality poster is housing --> housing crisis --> lack of housing --> property speculators buying property and treating them as their main income. In 2016 housing prices rised the fastest they had in 12 years. Also in the 2016 report, The Inequality Paradox:  Why Inequality Matters Even Though It Has Barely Changed. They dubunked myths about inequality and misperceptions of the public. “Inequality in incomes has been flat for decades. The housing crisis has caused real inequities, and real inequalities in lived experience, and real hardship. Trying to solve a housing problem by focusing on income levels simply will not work.” One Kiwi in five is in poverty even before you start looking at  housing  costs, says anti-poverty campaigner Max Rashbrooke.
